bob®

bob® is a rainwater storage reservoir that is kept and used at the household level.

bob®

Primary Function: To provide an affordable way for poor households to collect and store rainwater.

Targeted Beneficiaries: Communities/individuals who lack convenient access to clean water; disaster (heavy rains, drought, earthquake, etc) prone areas because bob® enables users to ‘bank’ clean water.

Need Addressed: It is estimated that 800 million people do not have access to clean water. bob® enables people to collect clean rainwater at their doorsteps for a fraction of the cost of other products.

Uniqueness: bob® is simple, affordable, easily transportable and scalable. Users have found not only relief from long trips to water holes, but also improved health from drinking cleaner water and more time to use on other work, both in and outside the home.

Dimensions: When full of water, bob® holds 370 gallons (1400 liters) of water and it has a 5ft footprint at about 3ft fall. Packaged, bob® weighs 8 pounds and is the size of a small backpack.

Geographic Coverage: Pilot program underway in Uganda as of 2009 but the commercial pilot has been ongoing since 2011. Testing of bob® is being done in more than 12 countries.
